Who Should Attend the Emergency First Aid at Work with a Paediatric Element Course?
Anyone who is required to act as a first aider in the workplace can complete this course. The paediatric element makes this course ideal for those who work in a childcare setting or school.
Emergency First Aid at Work with a Paediatric Element Learning Outcomes
Candidates successfully completing this course will be entitled to act as a first aider in the workplace. This Emergency First Aid at Work course may be more suitable where a needs assessment has identified a low-risk work environment. This course complies with the Health & Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 (Appendix 6 Content of an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course).
Learning and Assessment
In accordance with Appendix 6 H&S (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, learners will gain knowledge on:
- The role of the first aider
- The importance of preventing cross infection
- The need for recording incidents and actions
- Use of available equipment
- Assessing a situation & acting safely in an emergency
- Administering Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- The safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator
- Providing appropriate first aid for minor injuries (small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns, scalds and small splinters.
They will also gain skills in administering first aid to a casualty who is:
• unconscious (including seizures)
• choking
• wounded or bleeding
• suffering from shock
Additional subjects will include:
• Administering Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation to a child
• Recognition and management of Asthma
• Recognition and management of Anaphylaxis
• Administering first aid to a child who is unconscious (including seizures) or choking.
Assessment Method
Learners will be assessed through activities, multiple-choice tests and practical assessments.
